A user can move a task on either the Resource View, or SmartJob™ View of the Gantt. However, there are checks and balances in place defined by a set Business Rules, some of which are configurable. If one, or more, of those rules could be violated by the move, an Alert will be presented when saving the change. An example of a violation would be dependency violation where you are attempting to move a task earlier than a predecessor task. A task can be moved to another resource, and can be moved in time on the same, or another resource.

1. Open either the Resource View, or the SmartJob™ View of the Gantt/Schedule Board.

2. If you know the SmartJob™ whose task you would like to drag and drop, the easiest way to find that Task is to perform a Gantt Search by typing in the name, or a partial match, of that SmartJob™. And click on the magnifying glass.

3. Expand the Search Results to open the Task level Search Results.

a. Click on the “jump to” icon in the Task level search results.

4. The Task object is now “highlighted”.

a. In the Resource View the resources shown in green in the left panel are resources qualified to perform this task.

b. And you will notice a mini-dialog on the bottom of the page.

5. Select the Move icon

6. The Move Dialog opens

7. You can now select a New Start Time

a. And the only way to guarantee that New Start Time will be respected by the engine is to “Pin To Time”

8. You can move to another resource through “Resource Assignment

a. First you need to change the Method to Pinned, although Preferred might be acceptable depending on your intent

9. Then you can select a new resource from the drop down

a. And Save your changes

If a task has multiple time segments you need to ensure Resource Assignment is appropriately set in all Time Segments.

If the application is configured to allow for moves to an unqualified resource you will be presented with a list of all the Classes and Resources for the same Resource Type.
